They will need to fight Wons and escape back through the portal in 2 rounds.

Round 0, Tiamat wakes up.
Round 1, Tiamat begins charging her breath attack.
Round 2, Tiamat fires unless the party has escaped?

The party is left outside the monument to tiamat. They can find a map if they see and make it to the caravan.

Traversing avernus is confusing and nearly never makes sense for distance.
